Digi-pack cover and Magazine Advert

Digi-pack Cover
We chose these images as they make the artist look casual but in charge. The monochrome colour scheme matches our video so that all the products related to it are recognizable to an audience. We included quotes to show our product in a good light so people are more likely to buy it. We chose images on the spine of the DVD cover of glow stars from the video, this links to the 'celebrity lifestyle' atmosphere of the video.

Magazine Advert
Our magazine cover includes an image from the back of our DVD cover.

Brainstorming: Images for the DVD cover

We could use these images in colour or in black and white

Response to Feedback

Positive feedback included the fact that our background with glowing stars matched the lyrics and that the sunglasses fitted the genre.
We feel that some of the feedback on our video was somewhat unfair as we used many conventions used music videos of a similar genre but group did not pick up on it.
In order to improve our video we could make sure a camera had enough battery to film before we left so that we could get more footage.

It wasnt very energetic for the type of genre, or colourful. However the editing was very good which could fit a typical convention of the characteristics for a grime/hip-hop music video.

As the video did not empahsis the lyrics it was good they had lip syncing, as it ment the audience could understand what he was saying, this challenged the conventions of this type of video.

The background had stars on it, which fitted with the lyrics of the song, which was good.

The voyeurism was focused on the 'models' we think it should have been focused more on the lead artist.
U2 - 57
The music video genre is hip-hop/RnB. We found the music video quite boring as noting happened other than people turning around and taking sunglasses off and putting them back on. On the other hand the lip syncing was very precise and fit perfectly.
The hip-hop/RnB genre characterisics were not really met as the action of the girls wasn't very typical of this genre.
Also more could've been done to sell the artist as there wasn't much focus on the singer during the song, and he didn't show off the rest of his body which is a typical aspect of this genre.
The backdrop fitted the music and lyrics, but apart from that nothing else in the video fitted the music or lyrics.
We could improve the video by showing off more of the singer and selling the artisc in more locations.

U2-56
Voyeurism - Close ups of the main singer and other girls.
Genre Characteristics - Matched the real video, like the effects where it fades in and out. you expect to see the main singer who is usually a man. They used sunglasses which is a characteristic of rnb music.
Visuals/Music - The music matched the beat and tempo
Visuals/Lyrics - The song mentions stars in the lyrics, and in the background they have stars put up on the wall.
intertextuality - there is no intertextualiy.
Need to sell the artist - ......
u2-58
Lip syncing was good and the lighting was appropriate to the genre. The stars were linked to the lyrics which worked well. Which is one of Goodwins points.
We thought it was a bit short though.
Wasn't any voyeurism, and the video was repetitive.
They sold the artist by using flashy glasses. Which stood out in the dark lighting.
This video is similar to the original video, which means he is able to sell himself because he is recognised in his videos, which is intertextuality.
The video could appeal to a male audience because it is just females in the video.

Research of videos in the same genre as 'Pass Out'

In this video the pace is really fast, the lighting is dark and there are lots of effects. This makes it similar to our music video because ours has the same conventions. Both Pendulum and Tinie Tempah's music both have a certain element of 'Drum and Bass' which makes the songs more fast paced.

The reason we looked at this music video is because it had the star effect and in ours we were planning to use stars for the line 'We bring the stars out' this video helped us with inspiration for the line as a visual feature.

Costume and Pose Designs

Here are some initial designs for the costumes and poses that we shall use in our music video:

This design if for the lead singer who shall lip synch to our chosen track. He wears a shiny leather jacket with the collar turned up, black sunglasses and a low necked t-shirt.
Here is a basic design of what one of our posing models shall wear. This costume consists of black clothing, red lipstick, black or shiny ribbon looped around the neck and face, dark eye makeup and a pompedour fringe hairstyle with a pony tail at the back.

This is another design for a model's costume, this one encorperateds jewelry and black glasses instead of a ribbon.
Here is a rough sketch of the dark, heavily eyelinered makeup that we decided to use on the models.

These sketches show some pose ideas for the models. The block could be replaced with a table or chair.
Here is a design for a close up on one of the models, we decided that adding different shot distances would not only make the music video introduction more interesting but also mimic a fashion photoshoot more effectivley.

Lip synching task

Here is our finished project:

We found the lip synching task relatively easy due to using markers on the video and song track to match up the lyrics to the visuals. We added fades to the beginning and end of the video to mke it look neater. What we learned in this task will help us to edit the lip synching and video together accurately in our finished project.

Our chosen idea

After pitching to the class we decided to use Idea 1 - The Sci-fi Fashion Shoot.

We shall film our music video introduction in the media studio so that we can use the lighting equipment and blank walls.
We shall also need to get in extras to pose in the video and someone to lip-synch to the music.
Costume wise our characters will wear monotone outfits with glossy black elements such as sunglasses, jewellery or lipstick.

Ideas for music video

For our introductory task we will create a 1 minute music video. Here are our 2 ideas for the song "Pass Out" - Tinie Tempah.

Idea 1:
- Sci-fi/Fashion Shoot
- Black and White shots, some with coloured lighting
- Lots of quick cuts
- Shots that match the lyrics e.g "we bring the stars out" would be a shot of someone posing with the light on, the light is switched off and glowing stars on the back wall will show
- Sharp lines of costume and colour in Mise-en-scene
- Blurred sections within shots when poses change, these contrast sharpness and make it look like a photograph of movement.

Idea 2:
- different forms of media creating hypes about the concert
- The concert itself.
- Media that will be shown: facebook, news report, MSN Messenger
- Before the concert shows we see all the people that go into making it work e.g manager, stage director. This would be one shot with people moving in and out of the shot as the camera travels down the corridor.
